Survey reveals what investors want for retirement

How are investors planning on generating retirement income in their golden years? Capital Group’s survey of more than 5,000 investors reveals their preferences and plans for saving and spending after they leave the labor force. Many investors prefer generating steady income and minimizing risk for retirement, even if that means accepting lower returns on their investments. The survey also found that investors’ views on retirement income differ from those of financial advisors in surprising ways.

Samir Mathur is a solutions portfolio manager with 33 years of industry experience (as of 12/31/2025). He holds an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley, a master's degree in computer science from the University of Southern California and a bachelor's of technology from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi.

He holds a master's degree in public policy from the University of Chicago, a master's degree in management from Tsinghua University in China and a bachelor's degree in foreign languages from the University of Bucharest, Romania.
