Steven G. Backes is a portfolio manager at Capital Group. As a fixed income investment analyst he covers emerging markets debt. He has 26 years of investment experience and has been with Capital Group for 13 years. Prior to joining Capital, he was a senior economist for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Before that, he served as a director, financial attaché, and special advisor at the United States Treasury and as an economist for the International Monetary Fund. He holds both a PhD and a master’s degree in economics from Duke University, and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Steven is based in New York.
