Starting in August of each year, information is mailed to Capital Bank and Trust (CB&T) SIMPLE IRA plan sponsors to assist them with their employee notification requirement for the upcoming enrollment period. The enrollment period for the following plan year runs from November 2 through December 31 of the current year.

The mailings are sent over several days. This process allows plan sponsors to receive the information in a timely manner and includes plans that were set up before the enrollment period.

The documents included in the mailing do not need to be returned to American Funds.

For SIMPLE IRA plans with CB&T as the Designated Financial Institution (DFI), the mailing includes a:

  • Cover letter
  • Summary Plan Description
  • Model Salary Deferral Election
  • Sample Notification to Eligible Employees


For SIMPLE IRA plans where CB&T is not the DFI, the mailing includes a:

  • Cover letter
  • IRS Form 5304-SIMPLE, including:
    • CB&T’s procedures for withdrawals in Article VI
    • IRS Model Salary Reduction Agreement
    • IRS Model Notification to Eligible Employees
