You can best prepare yourself for the application and interview process by researching the industry and thinking about why it might be interesting to you. What sounds exciting? Why does it sound like a good match for you?  What will you want to learn more about? We suggest the following:

• Read books about investing. Examples include Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway Letters to Shareholders and Benjamin Graham’s The Intelligent Investor.
• Talk to professionals in the industry. Joining stock pitches is a good way to learn firsthand.
• Demonstrate your interest in the field by starting your own portfolio, either actual or paper/hypothetical.
• Attend industry educational events. A list of Capital Group events can be found here.

The CAP interview process includes a few one-on-one or two-on-one conversations with members of the CAP recruiting, program management and investment teams. These conversations are designed to help us learn more about your background and how you think through decisions. 

• Why are you interested in CAP, Capital Group and the investment management industry?
• What’s something you’re curious or passionate about outside of school and investing?
• What’s a risk that you’ve taken and how did it pan out?
• What’s a non-consensus view you have?
• Tell us about a time you were unsuccessful. What did you learn from it?
• Tell us about a time you received feedback you didn’t agree with. How did you handle it?

If you already have investment experience, we’ll ask you to tell us about some of your ideas. If you’re new to investing, we will tailor our questions for you.

Current CAP associates take part in on-campus presentations and interviews; you will have opportunities to interact with them during the application process.

Each year, we hire up to 10 participants globally into our CAP Full Time program and 10 participants globally into our CAP Summer Associate Program.

CAP Full Time is a three-year global rotation program with projects averaging four months. Most rotations take place in the region where you are based, with potential opportunities for international rotations.

The program starts with intensive eight-week training focused on strengthening your ability to conduct fundamental research while deepening your understanding of Capital Group's culture and investment philosophy. You'll also build professional skills in areas such as communication, prioritization and time management. Short, targeted learning sessions continue throughout the program to provide support as you go deeper in specific areas.

The CAP Summer Associate opportunity is a 10-week program in which you lead an investment research project with autonomy to shape your research approach, develop differentiated insights and perspectives, and share your work with Capital Group investors. You'll attend networking events and build relationships with senior leaders and your intern cohort. Many summer associates receive an offer for CAP Full Time after completing the program.

Rotations are the backbone of the program and provide associates hands-on experience to develop investment judgment and acumen. Most rotations take place in the region where associates are based, with potential opportunities for international rotations.

Rotations will vary depending on business needs and the associate's development trajectory. Here are some examples of rotations and responsibilities:

Investment Group topical research projects

• Research Europe's energy mix over the next 10-20 years.
• Evaluate the investment opportunity in quantum computing.
• Conduct a deep dive into humanoids and evaluate their investment implications for the manufacturing industry.

Company project and industry reviews

• Analyze companies or issuers within an industry and make investment recommendations.

Quantitative research analytics

• Design and perform a multi-year regression analysis in R to determine the impact of ETF flows on stock returns.

Capital Strategy Research

• Develop and build a new currency model that analyzes the U.S. Dollar Real Effective Exchange Rate index and that projects future changes in the dollar.

CAP offers meaningful opportunities to give back, including selective nonprofit rotations with Capital Group's Community Wealth Council partners. These three-month, full-time rotations place associates as embedded project managers supporting organizations that have completed Capital Group-funded financial literacy training and are now implementing sustainable community programs.

In this role, you'll work directly with nonprofit leaders, apply analytical and project management skills to advance their missions, and capture insights to inform future CAP rotations. It's a hands-on way to build leadership experience while bringing Capital Group's values of stewardship, integrity and service-first leadership to life.

The 10-week CAP Summer Associate Program gives you a taste of the full-time program, including individual assignments, training and coaching. We’ll also organize activities to help you meet people across Capital Group.

No. But if you’re interested in the full-time program, we highly encourage you to join the CAP Summer Associate Program, as we recruit heavily from this cohort.

For CAP Full Time, we provide a competitive base salary and an opportunity for two annual bonuses, relocation support and continual training and development. Our benefits package includes a retirement plan contribution equal to 15% of your total annual compensation up to federally mandated caps (without requiring you to make any contribution at all).

For the CAP Summer Associate Program, we provide competitive pay as well as relocation support.

CAP's mission is to develop Capital Group's next generation of investors and leaders. Alumni have built careers across investing, trading, business development, the Fundamental Research Group and ESG analysis. CAP also provides a strong foundation for graduate study, roles across investment management and opportunities in other industries, including consulting, product management and marketing.
