Global rotations give you the opportunity to develop skills and relationships across key areas of Capital’s investment organizations and business groups.

Eight weeks of training

CAP begins with eight weeks of formal training, including both technical skills and an introduction to the foundations and culture of our investment groups.

Collaboration, learning and feedback

In addition to your program manager, you are paired with a CAP investment coach who is an experienced analyst or portfolio manager at Capital Group.

In-house investment courses

We provide ongoing learning and development opportunities, including in-house training workshops, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) sponsorship and more.

Applying to CAP

For CAP summer internships, applications open in January in the U.S. and in late summer for Europe and Asia.
Due to high interest, we recommend that you submit your application as soon as possible.

You can best prepare yourself for the application and interview process by researching the industry and thinking about why it might be interesting to you. What sounds exciting? Why does it sound like a good match for you? What will you want to learn more about? We suggest the following:

Read books about investing. Examples include Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway Letters to Shareholders and Benjamin Graham’s The Intelligent Investor.
Talk to professionals in the industry. Joining stock pitches is a good way to learn firsthand.
Demonstrate your interest in the field by starting your own portfolio, either actual or paper/hypothetical.
Attend industry educational events. A list of Capital Group events can be found here.

You’ll participate in one-on-one or two-on-one conversations with members of the CAP and investment teams. These CAP interviews are conversations where we learn more about your background and how you make decisions. There are no formal stock pitches or modeling tests/evaluations. Instead, prepare to answer some of the following questions:

Why are you interested in CAP, Capital Group and the investment management industry?
What’s something you’re curious or passionate about outside of school and investing?
What’s a risk that you’ve taken and how did it pan out?
What’s a non-consensus view you have?
Tell us about a time you were unsuccessful. What did you learn from it?
Tell us about a time you received feedback you didn’t agree with. How did you handle it?

If you already have investment experience, we’ll ask you to tell us about some of your ideas. If you’re new to investing, we will tailor our questions for you.

Our CAP associates are intellectually curious, ambitious and ready to enjoy the rotational aspects of the program. We look for people who are self-aware, driven, resilient and open to feedback and who seek to learn from their mistakes. We value creative thinkers with analytical skills who are comfortable taking calculated risks and have an interest in both the investment management industry and how companies operate. We strongly encourage applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences to apply.

The CAP experience

We hire up to 10 people globally for CAP Full Time. We hire up to 10 people globally for the CAP Summer Internship.

CAP Full Time is a three-year program with rotations averaging four months. The majority of your rotations will take place in the region where you are based. You may have the opportunity for international rotations.

The program starts with an eight-week training focused on accounting, modeling and valuation. In parallel, you will learn about Capital Group and deepen your professional skills in areas including communication, prioritizing and time management. In addition to the upfront training, we offer Learning Labs (shorter training sessions) throughout the program to support you as you go deeper in certain practice areas.

The CAP Summer Internship is a 10-week summer program where you’ll have exposure to the asset management industry at one of the world’s largest investment management organizations. You will work on an individual assignment that aligns with your interests in investing and a group project with other interns. You’ll have the opportunity to attend networking events and build relationships with senior leaders and other experts in the company. Many of our interns receive an offer for CAP Full Time at the completion of their internship.

Rotations are the backbone of CAP. Traditionally, most assignments are within the CAP associate’s region, with possible travel to other offices.

Your rotations will vary, depending on your objectives and business needs. Here are some examples of rotations and responsibilities:

Investment Group topical research projects

Research the ongoing litigation against manufacturers of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) compounds and assess the size of the potential investment liability.
Evaluate the investment opportunity of quantum computing.

Quantitative Research Analytics

Design and perform a multiyear regression analysis in R to determine the impact of ETF flows on stock returns.

Capital Strategy Research

Develop and build a new currency model that analyzes the U.S. Dollar Real Effective Exchange Rate index and that projects future changes in the dollar.

Company project and industry reviews

Study and make an investment recommendation on a single company or multiple companies or issuers within an industry.

Capital Group is committed to supporting the interests of our associates and investing in the communities in which we live and work. As a CAP associate, you will develop additional skills and build relationships through a variety of nonprofit opportunities, for example, an assignment with a nonprofit organization, volunteering or serving on one of our grant-making committees. This nonprofit element of your CAP experience is a unique and meaningful way to see Capital’s core values come to life in a different context.

The 10-week internship gives you a taste of the full-time program, including individual assignments, training and coaching. We’ll also organize activities to help you meet people across Capital Group.

No. But if you’re interested in the full-time program, we highly encourage you to join the CAP Summer Internship, as we recruit heavily from this cohort.

For CAP Full Time, we provide a competitive base salary and an opportunity for two annual bonuses, relocation support and continual training and development. Our benefits package includes a retirement plan contribution equal to 15% of your total annual compensation up to federally mandated caps (without requiring you to make any contribution at all).

For the CAP Summer Internship, we provide competitive pay as well as relocation support.

CAP’s mission is to develop future investment analysts at Capital Group. If you choose a different path, many of our CAP associates stay on at Capital as quantitative analysts, traders, fundamental researchers, strategists, etc. Still other CAP associates have pursued a graduate degree or role in another industry.

The CAP locations

CAP is a global program. Our CAP associate cohorts are currently based in Los Angeles, London and Singapore.

CAP summer internship cohorts are currently based in Los Angeles, London and Singapore.

Yes, we offer relocation support. In some cases, we have been able to obtain visas or work authorization for CAP associates during and upon completion of the program.
