GTS was a holding company with 100% ownership of Hermes, a European-wide telecommunications fiber optic carrier, and controlling interests in companies providing voice and data telephonic services through satellite, cellular and digital overlay networks in Russia, CIS and Central Europe. GTS was an early mover in both the rapidly growing Eastern & Western European telecoms sector. In February 1998, GTS had a successful IPO on NASDAQ.
