From wildfires in North America to severe storms in Europe and floods in Asia, losses related to extreme weather are affecting the businesses of many property and casualty insurers.
In the January 2026 issue of Take 5 Q&A we take a closer look at this area. With most losses globally in the past year attributable to the US (and to wildfires, there, especially), ESG senior managers Donovan Escalante and David Sneyd answer five key questions on how US insurers are faring.
Donovan Escalante is an ESG senior manager with 15 years of industry experience (as of 12/31/2025). He holds a master’s degree in industrial ecology from Leiden University and a bachelor’s degree in economics from University of Texas at Austin.
David Sneyd is an ESG analyst at Capital Group covering financials and the ESG analyst engagement lead. He has 18 years of industry experience and has been with Capital Group for four years. Prior to joining Capital, David worked in roles focused on ESG research and engagement at BMO Global Asset Management and Fidelity International. He began his career at the proxy research providers Institutional Shareholder Services and PIRC. He holds a master's degree in philosophy and public policy from the London School of Economics and a bachelor's degree in philosophy from the University of Sussex. David is based in London.
