Investments are not FDIC-insured, nor are they deposits of or guaranteed by a bank or any other entity, so they may lose value.

Investors should carefully consider investment objectives, risks, charges and expenses. This and other important information is contained in the mutual fund prospectuses, summary prospectuses and CollegeAmerica Program Description, which can be obtained from a financial professional, and should be read carefully before investing. Similar information about collective investment trusts can be obtained from Capital Group or participants’ plan provider or employer. CollegeAmerica is distributed by American Funds Distributors, Inc. and sold through unaffiliated intermediaries.

Depending on your state of residence, there may be an in-state plan that provides state tax and other state benefits, such as financial aid, scholarship funds and protection from creditors, not available through CollegeAmerica. Before investing in any state's 529 plan, investors should consult a tax advisor. CollegeAmerica is sponsored by Virginia529℠.

Each target date portfolio is composed of a mix of underlying funds and is subject to the risks and returns of those funds. Underlying funds may be added or removed during the year. The target allocations are as of January 1, 2020, and are subject to the oversight committee's discretion. The investment adviser anticipates that assets will be invested within a range that deviates no more than 10% above or below these allocations. Investment professionals gradually adjust the portfolio over time so that it becomes more preservation-oriented. The allocation strategy does not guarantee that investors' education savings goals will be met. The target date is the year that corresponds roughly to the year in which the beneficiary is expected to begin taking withdrawals. Investors and their financial professionals should periodically evaluate their investment to determine whether it continues to meet their needs.

Investing outside the United States involves risks, such as currency fluctuations, periods of illiquidity and price volatility. These risks may be heightened in connection with investments in developing countries. Diversification does not eliminate the risks of investing; losses are possible in diversified portfolios.

The return of principal for bond portfolios and for portfolios with significant underlying bond holdings is not guaranteed. Investments are subject to the same interest rate, inflation and credit risks associated with the underlying bond holdings. Lower rated bonds are subject to greater fluctuations in value and risk of loss of income and principal than higher rated bonds. Investments in mortgage-related securities involve additional risks, such as prepayment risk.

For more information about the risks associated with each investment, go to its detailed information page or read the prospectus, if applicable. Allocations may not achieve investment objectives. The portfolios' risks are directly related to the risks of the underlying funds.

Portfolios are managed, so holdings will change.

  1. Figures are based on holdings of the underlying funds, if applicable, as of date shown.
  2. Allocation percentages and underlying funds are subject to the oversight committee's discretion and will evolve over time. Underlying funds may be added or removed at any time.
