How to Order Check-Writing Checks
Step 1
Get Prepared
Confirm your account is set up with the check-writing option. If you’re not sure, contact your financial advisor.
Step 2
Submit the Request
Do it online:
- Go to My Accounts.
- Sign in to your account.
- Click Profile & Settings.
- Under Other, next to Money Market Checks, click Order.
Contact your financial advisor.
Call us: (800) 421-4225.
Send it to us: We need a letter of instruction with your account number and signature.
- Mail the letter to your American Funds service center.
- Fax it to (888) 421-4351.
Step 3
Afterward
You will receive a book of 20 checks.
How long will it take?
- Online or phone: Changes are immediately reflected in your account.
- Mail: Requests are generally processed within 5 days of receiving them, provided they contain the necessary information and legal documentation.
Common Questions
Checks are sent via regular mail and generally arrive 7 to 10 days after we process the request.
Yes. Checks can be sent to a physical address (not a P.O. Box) overnight but may take up to 3 business days for delivery. Additional fees apply. To send the checks overnight, call us at (800) 421-4225.
Yes, provided the signer is an account owner, trustee or otherwise authorized by American Funds to use the account. Contact your financial advisor. Or you can update the authorized check signers by completing the Signature Card Update (PDF) form with a signature guarantee.
