Introducing a new and easier way to update beneficiaries

Based on investor feedback, we’ve enhanced our website and now you can update beneficiaries online.

Anytime you need to view or change your beneficiary information for Individual Retirement Account (IRA) or Transfer on Death (TOD) accounts, it’s now easy to do online. If you have a CollegeAmerica® account, you can also update your successor owner on our website. No paperwork is required.

Whenever your life changes, updating your account information helps ensure your money is passed down the way you intended. It also makes it easier for your loved ones or heirs to claim the assets. Not naming a beneficiary or successor owner could delay access to the funds and require additional steps to be completed.

If you’re already registered on our website, just log in and click View under Beneficiary Information on the right side of the page. To register, you’ll need your account number and the last four digits of the primary account holder’s Social Security number.

We recommend consulting with your financial professional or estate planner when making beneficiary designations.

Investments are not FDIC-insured, nor are they deposits of or guaranteed by a bank or any other entity, so they may lose value.

Investors should carefully consider investment objectives, risks, charges and expenses. This and other important information is contained in the fund prospectuses, summary prospectuses and CollegeAmerica Program Description, which can be obtained from a financial professional and should be read carefully before investing. CollegeAmerica is distributed by American Funds Distributors, Inc. and sold through unaffiliated intermediaries.

Depending on your state of residence, there may be an in-state plan that provides state tax and other state benefits, such as financial aid, scholarship funds and protection from creditors, not available through CollegeAmerica. Before investing in any state's 529 plan, investors should consult a tax advisor.
